In order to demonstrate a solid environmental performance, by controlling the environmental aspects and impacts that our operations entail, and to report our environmental achievements to the general public, we have implemented an Environmental Management System based on UNE EN-ISO 14001:2015 standards.

The purpose of this report is to provide information about our performance and conduct regarding the environment to any interested parties, and to reinforce our commitment to continually improving the Environmental Management System we have implemented.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

BMC recognizes and establishes, as a company policy, a commitment to correct environmental stewardship. To this end, the company has implemented an environmental stewardship system based on UNE-EN ISO 14001:201 standards.

The objective of the environmental policy is to ensure environmental protection, including preventing pollution, in the course of all of the company’s activities and services, in order to reduce the environmental impact and foster the efficient use of resources.

ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS

At BMC we have identified all of the environmental aspects associated with our activities and services. These include those directly associated with our activities (direct aspects), those associated with the activities of our vendors and subcontractors (indirect aspects), and those associated with the useful life of the furnishings we make and installations we do (indirect aspects). In addition, we have identified the environmental aspects associated with possible emergency situations.

All the aspects identified have been evaluated to determine which are significant.

Direct Aspects:

To ensure correct environmental management and performance, and abide by our commitment to continuous improvement, we set new environmental goals and objectives on an annual basis. These goals are established bearing in mind the aspects that have turned out to be significant, in order to reduce our impact on the environment.

Additionally, we oversee all environmental aspects, both significant and not significant, using monitoring indicators. We have also established operational control procedures which help us monitor and document this management.

To prevent issues associated with emergency situations, we have established an emergency protocols guide, which allows us to train and raise awareness among our employees, and ensure that we have the technical and human resources needed to act in case of emergency.

Indirect Aspects:

To monitor and improve our environmental management regarding indirect environmental aspects, we have established a set of actions that allows us to act as needed and influence their management (as far as we are able). Thus, we have implemented actions such as:

Creating the “Environmental criteria applicable to providers and subcontractors”, which we send to them and via which they commit to getting to know and complying with the laws that apply to their operations.

Publishing the aspects associated with the life cycle of the furnishings and installments that we provide and deliver to our clients on our website, to make this information available to interested parties. This way, we contribute to raising environmental awareness and working towards greater respect for the environment.

Information on the product life cycle

In our commitment to respect the environment, we at BMC would like to provide useful information about the environmental impact associated with the life cycle of the furniture and equipment we offer our clients (from the moment the furniture is sent from our facilities until it is used for the last time by the client).

Packaging:

The furniture sent or transported to our clients is generally packaged to preserve, protect, and keep it in perfect condition until it is delivered or installed. This wrapping, as per Law 11/97 on packaging and packaging waste, must be correctly disposed of in order to comply with current legislation. Therefore, we hereby inform you that the packaging you receive with your furniture must be correctly disposed of.

Transport and delivery:

The transportation of furniture or components entails an impact associated with the consumption of natural resources (fuel), the generation of atmospheric emissions, and the generation of noise pollution.

To minimize these impacts, it is important to adopt certain measures:

  • The correct planning and organization, by both BMC and the client, for the delivery and installation of furniture and components. When delivery/installation trips are well planned, their number and their associated costs will be reduced.
  • The correct use of vehicles (efficient driving).
  • The correct maintenance of the vehicles used for transportation.

Waste generated when installing furniture in the clients’ business or home:

When installing furnishings in a client’s business or home, waste such as wood pieces, empty tubes with residues of glues and other products, plastic, and others can be generated. According to current legislation, this waste must be correctly disposed of.

In installations carried out by BMC, we can not take responsibility for the removal and correct disposal of this waste.

Waste generated at the end of the furniture/equipment’s useful life:

At the end of the useful life of the furniture or equipment, when the client dismantles and disposes of it, they must do so in accordance with the current legislation; they will correctly manage the disposal of fixtures, wood, scrap metal, fibers, fiberboard, plastics, and others, by delivering them to authorized waste managers.
